The easiest ways to travel between Santa Cristina, Ortisei, and Selva without a car are by the efficient public bus network or along the scenic walking promenade that connects the three villages.
Quick Facts
Public Bus System
A frequent and reliable bus service connects all three villages in Val Gardena. If you are staying at a partner accommodation, you will receive the Val Gardena Mobil Card, which allows for free and unlimited use of these buses. Buses generally run every 15 to 30 minutes throughout the day, making it a very convenient way to get around the valley without a car. Main bus stops are clearly marked in the center of each village, such as the Municipio Bus Stop in Santa Cristina and the Piazza S. Antonio Bus Stop in Ortisei.
Walking Paths
For a more scenic journey, you can walk between the villages. A well-maintained path follows the route of the old Val Gardena railway. The walk from Santa Cristina to Ortisei is approximately 3.5 km and is a comfortable, relatively flat stroll with beautiful views. Similarly, a path connects Santa Cristina to Selva. These promenades are perfect for a leisurely walk and are also suitable for strollers.
Taxis are also available throughout the valley for a quicker, more direct journey. Companies like
Auto Sella
offer services between the villages, though this is a more expensive option than the bus.
